My name is Oxana Kolosova. I am a Medical English teacher from London.
My background gives me a strong advantage as a Medical English teacher.
I am a trained pharmacist with a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences;
I have an MA degree in linguistics;
before moving into language teaching, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry.
The combination of expertise in pharmaceuticals, linguistics and business allows me to go beyond language and create lessons and study materials that are not only pedagogically effective but also engaging and professionally relevant to my students.
I strongly believe that language teaching cannot follow a one-size-fits-all approach. Every student has different learning goals, which is why my teaching approach places the learner and their needs at the centre of the process.
I focus on real-life tasks and situations that my students encounter in their work or studies.
I teach grammar and vocabulary on a ‘need-to-know’ basis, breaking material into small and manageable chunks which are directly linked to the task at hand.
I believe that language learning goes beyond words and rules. That is why I also focus on the 'soft' skills, such as clear patient communication, strategic language use for different medical scenarios and cultural awareness for working in diverse teams.
I try to minimise theory and maximise practice, as well as encourage the use of critical thinking and clinical problem-solving skills alongside language learning.
